Classroom Management
This year in my Kindergarten class I am using a clip up and down chart. With this chart the children will be able to clip up by showing good character qualities such as: Enthusiasm, Creativity, Confidence, Empathy, Appreciation, Cooperation, Integrity, Curiosity, Commitment, Respect, Independence and Tolerance toward their friends in class. They will clip down for only bad choices such as: Not following our rules and doing things that shouldn't do. They will be able to clip back up throughout the day by making better choices and by showing good character qualities. I try not to use the Clip Up and Down System that much I really try to solve conflict in my classroom by using Conscious Discipline that I have been thoroughly trained in
Conscious Discipline:
Conscious Discipline methodology is recognized by SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. Our methodology is a comprehensive emotional intelligence and classroom management system that integrates all domains of learning (social, emotional, physical, cultural and cognitive) into one seamless curriculum. The programs and practices of Conscious Discipline incorporates school climate, social-emotional competency in adults and children, behavioral and resiliency changes, shifts from external rewards / punishments to problem-solving and academic success.
With in this you teach the children that we are a school family and we are here to help each other. You teach children to handle conflict with their friends by me being the facilitator and showing them how to handle the problem with their friend and what to say to their friend when they have conflict. There are also these breathing techniques that we teach the childern to do to help calm them down and to stop crying if a conflict leads to that. Its amazing and it truly works. If you want to know more about this feel free to contact me.
I’m looking forward to the progression that each child will make this year in recognizing and taking responsibility for their own choices. Thank you ahead of time for joining me in this endeavor. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Sincerely, Mrs. Costagno
I strongly believe in positive reinforcement. All students will be rewarded for using appropriate behavior. Such rewards include:
1. Verbal praise/special privilege
2. Lunch with the teacher
3. Encouraging notes or a call home
